More than 3 photos on the splash page

I need more than 3 photos on the splash page, why can't we have as many as we want, same as  home page entries?

the main tabs at the top work a little differently than the content tabs in terms of how the CMS is built.  i'll wait to see if this gets voted up.

Having a second type of splash page would be nice, one that could have user definable number of images (no more than six or nine?) I'm trying to replicate something we have on our existing site (with Sarin template) that uses a data base, so the splash page for each couple has five links that can take them to their image collections on our site or to another URL where we host the images for purchase (Pictage)...

Up to 6 would be great (2 lines of 3) or just 4 would be great for me.
