Understanding the Advanced set

The "Basic" set has one category that you upload all of your images into.  Computers 10 years old were able to process 300 images without a problem.  Normal, standard computers can handle 1500 images on the wall at one time.  However, if you want to upload thousands of images, you will want to use the "Advance" set and here is why:

  • categories twill be smaller groupings of images that can be processed easier by older computers (think about grandma)
  • it is MUCH faster to upload a zip file of thousands of images via FTP than via the browser
  • it will reduce file space on your server
  • Hosting companies only back up the first X number of files.  this will help you keep your file numbers down to have a more complete backup.

You are more than welcome to try to upload more images in the basic.  However, you never know what machine someone is going to be looking at images on.

Step 1: Create a client set

  1. Click “Sets”
  2. Click “NEW”
  3. Name the set
  4. Select 'Advanced".
  5. Click “Create Set”

HINT: name it something simple like the client's name “smith”. Don't use funny characters like %,$,&

Step 2: Find the path and file name

  1. Click “Sets”
  2. Click the set you just created
  3. Click the "Zip file" tab
  4. In the Yellow box you will see something like this: "vend-proofing/vend-proofing-data/uploads/a024.zip".  This long string is a path or a series of folders on your server.  To understand it, work backwards.  In this case, the "a024.zip" file will live in the uploads folder.  The "uploads" folder will be in the "vend-proofing-data" folder.  That folder is in the "vend-proofing" folder.
  5. Write down the path and the zip files name.

Step3: Create a zip file

  1. Crop all of your images and organize them into different folders.  The folder names will become your category names.  For example: "bride prep", groom prep", "ceremony", "reception", etc.
  2. Create a new folder (do not name it yet)
  3. Drag all of your category folders into this new folder
  4. Right click on the new folder to "Zip the file up" and name the file exactly as you saw it in Step 2.  (use any default computers zip creating tool)

Step 4: Create the "uploads" folder and upload your zip file

  1. Using something free like "FileZilla" or "Fire FTP" to connect to your server.
  2. Look for the "vend-proofing" folder (unless you changed this during installation) either right in the root of the server, or in the public_html, or the httpdocs folder.
  3. Next, find the "vend-proofing-data" folder
  4. Create the "uploads".
  5. Upload your zip file into the "uploads" folder

Step 5: Verify the Zip File

  1. Click “Sets”
  2. Click the set you just created
  3. Click the "Zip file" tab
  4. Click the “Verify Zip File” button below.

Hint: You can then move your folders up or down in order. However you can NOT organize/rename folders and images. If you ant to make changes you will have to create a new set and rename/reupload the zip file.  We did this to prevent any loss or confusion to incoming orders.
